I’ve had the privilege of working with Habitat for Humanity in the past and it was great to get back together with the organization again.
On this episode of Next Home we partnered up with Carrier an HVAC company and installed a new super efficient HVAC system for a Habitat for Humanity family who was getting ready to finish and move into their new home in Lynwood, CA.
The Lynwood home is part of the Habitat for Humanity Greater Los Angeles chapter which has built, rehabilitated and repaired more than 700 home in the greater Los Angeles area. They are an amazing group!

THE QUESTION MARK HOUSE:
Now, off to tour a home, in an undisclosed location, with a very special backyard – a movie theater and outdoor rooms all cleverly built on a very steep slope!
Want to see what can be done with a steep downward sloping backyard and a little creativity? We toured the ‘question mark (?)’ house to find out. This is a special home created by a group of artists and techies. The artists literally created giant 15’ metal question marks as sculptural elements. All of the entertainment and smart home automated features of this incredible home are controlled by the Elan Home system. And the tech guys and gals created a giant outdoor home theater. This house was on a very steep grade and they decided to construct an amazing outdoor stage and theater. We met with Joe Lautner and he gave us a behind the scenes tour of this incredible outdoor home theater and concert venue.

Backyard of the Question Mark House – notice the GIANT movie screen in the backyard! It comes up from below and can’t be used when it’s windy because it’s so big it will catch too much wind and sail away.
I asked Shawn Nelson, the inventor of the modern beanbag and the founder of Lovesac to meet with me so I could learn more about his latest idea to reinvent the sofa.
Next Home TV series camera crew members and Shawn Nelson, seated in the navy blue shirt between me, and my good friend Ev, whose house we were at in Malibu, CA.
He came up with a system where dozens of couch configurations can be created from the same pieces, along with many slipcover options …and sustainable fabrics can be ordered …and their clever shipping method cut way down on shipping needs too… and, I never thought I’d say this about a couch, but it’s really fun! It can be imagined and designed like a transformer!
And, get this… there are indoor and outdoor options!
